The Birthday Party

We spent Saturday, November 17, surrounded by many of our family and friends in honor of Catelyn's first birthday. It was a cold day, but it was plenty warm enough in our house with all of the bodies we had in there! Catelyn had a great group of her friends that came and everyone played so well together in Catelyn's new playroom. We spent the beginning of the party watching the children interact and play with all of the toys together, and we also introduced all of those who may not have known one another. It was a great group and everyone seemed to be quite comfortable while they mingled.

After everyone had their fill of tasty appetizers and sandwiches, we pulled out Catelyn's birthday cake. The theme of her party was "Mod Butterfly" and consisted of bright, colorful pink butterflies and shapes. So of course her cake was in the shape of a butterfly, courtesy of her Grandma Sharon. :) Catelyn didn't make as much of a mess of her cake as we thought she would, but after a little fussing and with some prompting, she took a few bites and really seemed to enjoy it.

Then it was time for presents -- Catelyn's favorite! She loved diving into all of the bags and ripping the paper off of the gifts. She was blessed with so many wonderful things -- from toys to clothes to a drawing pad with crayons to a few pearls to start her very own pearl necklace (with love from her Grampy -- Sarah's dad). She was completely spoiled and loved all of the attention. The kids then went wild with the new toys, and as it got a little later in the day, our guests started to leave. We were left with some extra food, trash bags of crumpled up wrapping paper, and a quiet appreciation for the truly thoughtful and loving friends that the Lord has blessed us with.
