Girls' Trip to Rocky Gap

Sarah, Catelyn, and Nene (Sarah's mom) set out on March 16th for a three day trip to Western Maryland. We stayed at the Rocky Gap Resort, which is just five minutes outside of Cumberland, Maryland -- we were scouting for possible vacation homes in the Deep Creek Lake area for a week-long vacation this summer. Mike couldn't get off of work, so unfortunately we had to leave him behind and make this another girls' trek.

The resort was beautiful and everything that you could want in an "outdoorsy" location. The hotel sat on its own little lake and had tons of outdoor activities to participate in (weather permitting of course). There were miles of trails that snaked around the lake and through the woods, which we spent a glorious afternoon navigating. We broke in Catelyn's new hiking backpack and she really seemed to enjoy hanging out on Sarah's back as we walked through the woods. At one point she even had a pine branch and was enjoying hitting Sarah in the back of the head with it as if to say "mush, mush! faster, faster!" (photo below)

The resort even had their own little aviary which was home to about 8 different species of birds that had been hurt and could not be released into the wild again. Catelyn absolutely LOVED the birds and spent a good bit of our time there "talking" to them. The hawks were especially vocal, perhaps having a conversation with Catelyn?

Meals at this location were to die for -- we never had a meal we didn't love. We enjoyed Cinnamon Swirl French Toast, Black Peppered Filet Mignon and Godiva Chocolate Cheesecake, just to name a few things. Catelyn, our chocolate addict, especially loved the cheesecake (hey, it's vacation, right?!). We even got a picture of her grinning from ear to ear with chocolate all over her face (photo below). Another one of Catelyn's favorite things on the trip was a fountain in the lobby of the hotel. This was Catelyn's first experience with throwing pennies into one. She loved it so much she about emptied Sarah's wallet!
